Oral Care Tips for Kids

Oral Care Tips for Kids

It is important to establish good oral hygiene habits at a young age. That is why it is important to teach your kids the proper ways to brush and floss, as well as how to keep a consistent and proper routine.

Children do not always want to learn about good oral hygiene, so it is important to get creative and make the process fun. Consider letting your child pick their toothbrush from the store. Of course, you will have to make sure that it is suitable for their needs. Likewise, let them pick the toothpaste with the coolest graphics. Just be sure that it has child-safe levels of fluoride in it.

Proper brushing involves holding the brush at a forty-five degree angle to the gumline. Show your kids how to use gentle, circular motions to clean each tooth. Make sure that they are cleaning the inner surfaces, outer surfaces, and chewing surfaces of their teeth. Sometimes making it a game can help. Brushing too hard can do serious damage to the gums, so it is best to prevent them from developing this habit altogether. When flossing, make sure they floss using up and down motions. Be sure that they avoid using back-and-forth sawing motions as they floss, as this can also damage the gums.

Along with brushing and flossing, make sure your child gets to our dentist in Los Angeles twice a year for a regular exam and cleaning. That way, you can ensure the oral health of your child for years to come.
