Foods That Can Give You Whiter Teeth

Foods That Can Give You Whiter Teeth

It seems that nowadays everybody is a on a quest for whiter teeth. It may come as a surprise, but some of our favorite foods can actually help give you those pearly whites that you desire.

Dark chocolate is one of those foods that you would expect to not be good for your teeth, but the truth is that dark chocolate can be very good for your teeth. Dark chocolate contains a bitter powder called theobromine, which actually hardens the enamel surface of teeth. Stronger enamel coatings make teeth more resistant to discoloration.

Many times people drink green tea to help them relax, but it can also help their teeth. One of the reasons for this is because green tea contains tannins, which prevent bacteria from sticking to the teeth. When bacteria stick to the teeth, they give stains something to cling to. Without the bacteria present, it is harder for stains to affect your teeth. In addition, green tea can prevent bad breath, fight oral acids and bacteria, and boost fluoride levels in the mouth.

Strawberries have been a summer time favorite for generations. Because strawberries contain malic acid, they actually help to clean stains off of the teeth. This is not true for other berries, though, so be careful.

Cheese actually increases the pH level in our mouth, reducing the level of acidity. And since cheese contains calcium, it helps promote strong and healthy teeth.

In addition to eating the right foods, a professional teeth whitening treatment can go a long way in providing you with the white teeth that you have always wanted.
